Literacy Themes: Native Americans
One of the big themes I teach about in 2nd grade is Native Americans. Here are some books I use to teach an integrated Literacy/Social Studies unit:

Little Runner of the Longhouse
Small Wolf
Little Hawk's New Name
Buffalo Before Breakfast
Dancing with the Indians
The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush
The Legend of the Bluebonnet
Very Last First Time
This is a book of plays - very nice!
Below great book with a lot of nice activities, but what I really like about it is that there is a three page reading passage about each tribe, written at the perfect level for my 2nd graders. They discuss several different Native American tribes, and include a wonderful chart for comparing/contrasting the tribes, as well as a map:

Website visitors can help our classroom by purchasing items from my Amazon Wishlist or making a PayPal donation - all donations and ad revenue received on this site are spent on classroom books and other materials.
Parents - you can also help our classroom by purchasing books for your child from Scholastic book orders. Many books are $2 or less! Every order placed earns bonus points which I use to purchase books and other classroom materials. Every monthly order totaling $20 or more earns us a coupon for $10 in free books for our classroom. If you order online, I get an additional free book pick, which I will use to select a book for your child!
