School's Out

Obviously, school has been out for a while now. Before I know it, we'll be back for the fall! (Less than a month before teachers return, in fact!) For the first time in YEARS, I have NOT spent my entire summer working on school "stuff." With less than a month to go, I am not sure how I feel about my lazy and relaxing summer so far! I had a professional book I wanted to read and planning I wanted to do... but I haven't done any of it!

I have started doing a little back to school shopping the past week or so and thinking about my upcoming year/class a tiny bit, but mostly I am just enjoying summer and recharging my batteries after a VERY challenging year in 09/10. After many years of teaching a below grade level class, I think I finally reached a point of near-burnout. By spending time just relaxing and doing "nothing" this summer, I think I am helping myself bounce back and hopefully I will be ready to jump back in and get to work in August!

The point of all of this rambling is to tell my internet teacher friends that you probably won't see any new "stuff" on my site this summer. I have a lot of thinking to do about how I want to work/plan/teach this year and I just don't know if I will be able to add things to the site right away. Thanks for understanding, and thanks to everyone who visits and uses my book ideas, visits links on Amazon and other sites, etc.

Today we cut, sorted, read, and counted all of our picture words. We learned 299 new words this year! That number is a little low compared to other years... Hmm...
